William Hill today welcomed the news that legalised sports betting will begin in the state of New Jersey on Thursday 14th June.
Chief Executive of William Hill PLC Philip Bowcock said: "We welcome the news that the first legal, regulated sports bets in New Jersey will be placed on Thursday. We have a team ready for launch day at our sports book at Monmouth Park racecourse for what will be one of the biggest days for William Hill since it was founded in 1934. I would like to thank our team in the US for preparing for this day and we look forward to welcoming customers in New Jersey and taking bets on the full range of sports."
At launch the company will offer bets on everything from Major League Baseball, NFL, NHL, the NBA and the World Cup. The company has 22 betting windows at Monmouth Park including six in its dedicated Race and Sports Bar.
William Hill’s sportsbook at Monmouth Park was established following an agreement in 2013 to make the bookmaker the official sports betting partner at the racetrack in anticipation of the regulation of sports betting. The company is already the leading operator in Nevada – where it operates 107 sportsbooks.
Earlier this month Delaware became the first state to take advantage of the Supreme Court decision to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Act by offering a full range of betting options following the ruling. William Hill is the exclusive risk manager to the state lottery which previously only offered accumulator betting.
William Hill has also partnered with Ocean Resort Casino, an ocean-front hotel/entertainment property in Atlantic City, which is set to open in June, to bring a sports betting point to the resort in southern New Jersey. Pending appropriate licensing and regulatory approvals William Hill will operate a 7,500 square foot sportsbook in the heart of Ocean’s gaming floor.
Five further other states – New York, Rhode Island, California, Massachusetts and Michigan - have sports betting legislation pending.
